Fürth – The Perfect Day Trip From Nuremberg

One of the best things to do when you’re visiting bavaria is taking a day trip to Fürth. The city has beautiful corners and much more to offer than one might think.

In my opinion, Fürth is always worth the day trip when you’re in Nuremberg or even Munich. You need to know: Fürth is so close to Nuremberg that the borders of the two cities have now grown together. It is the perfect destination to add to your Bavaria itinerary and you don't need a lot of time to see the most important places.

In Fürth you won’t discover just one main highlight, but many little jewels. Be the beautiful half-timbered and sandstone buildings in the old town or the parks full of flowers.

HOW TO GET TO fürth FROM nuremberg

In order to get to Fürth I recommend traveling by subway U1 from Nuremberg or by train from anywhere in Germany with the Deutsche Bahn. For example traveling from Nuremberg to Fürth takes only 15 minutes with the U1 or 1.5 hours from Munich to Fürth by train! This will not only save you the tiresome search for a parking space, but also expensive parking fees in the city. From Fürth main station you walk under ten minutes to the old town.

There is no need for a car. In the center you can easily reach the most important sights on foot and even if you want to go a bit further outside the subway, train and bus service is very well developed!

There’s also the international airport "Albrecht Dürer" (NUE) in Nuremberg connecting several European cities. From there you can also easily get to the city by subway or bus!

THE BEST DAY TRIP FROM nuremberg – ONE DAY IN fürth

old town - Pfarrgasse, Gustavstraße & green market

Due to the fact that Fürth was hardly destroyed in the second world war the old town of Fürth is literally really old.

No question, Pfarrgasse is the most beautiful alleyway in all of Fürth. Take a short walk through this alleyway which is only a stone's throw away from the lively Gustavstraße.

Along Gustavstraße you will find a lot of cool cafés, cosy pubs and shops. So if you are looking for a place to have a delicious lunch, Gustavstraße is a good place to go. In summer you sit outside, listen to the music with a beer or a glass of wine and enjoy life. But besides a pub scene with cult status, you can also find cool hip stores with individual products in the old town.

At the western end of the Gustavstraße you will reach the Grüner Markt, which is the main square of the old town of Fürth. With its half-timbered buildings and sandstone houses, the this market place is really a place worth seeing.

Town hall with town hall tower

Moreover, I also recommend a visit of the classicistic Fürth town hall. During a guided tour you will also get to know the interior rooms, including the wood-panelled historical meeting room and the beautiful stairways. You only have the opportunity to climb the lookout tower during the guided tour.

City Park Fürth

The Stadtpark (city park) is known as a well-groomed, green oasis. Especially worth seeing are the rose garden and of course the church of resurrection.

Special Events In Fürth

The Michaeliskirchweih, or Färdder Kärwa, is considered to be the queen of church fairs and is one of the oldest and largest folk festivals in Franconia. It takes places annually from end September to mid October.

In the Winter months there are three Christmas markets in Fürth. They take place annually during Advent in the Old Town on the Main Market Square. One is the Old Town Christmas Market on the Waagplatz.

Where To Find The Best Vegan Food in Fürth

As I’ve already mentioned the main go to alley for food is the popular Gustavstraße. Whether having lunch in one of the cute cafes or having a drink in a cosy pub you’ll find whatever your hungry stomach desires.

My all time favourite place for lunch or dinner is the restaurant called „Stubenhocker“. They offer vegan burger with  potato wedges and refreshing homemade lemonade.

A place that I’ve disvoberrd myself only recently is „Benet Ice Creamery“. They have a changing variety of vegan flavours and even their scones are vegan friendly! It is located a bit outisde the city centre but pretty close to the main station. Perfect for a hot summer day!

CONCLUSION

A trip to Fürth is best combined with a visit to other cities in this area. Fürth is especially popular to visit during a holiday in Bavaria as it is a great addition to other day trips from Munich!

If you have even more time to explore this area you have to make a day trip to the beautiful town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber! From pretty little streets to beautiful half-timbered houses and the well-preserved town wall, there are so many beautiful spots to discover.
