Top Things To Do In Auckland

In this blogpost I will share with you what to do and not to miss in and around Auckland!

Mt. Eden

Not far from Auckland's city centre is the volcano Mt Eden. It's Auckland's highest mountain but easily climbable in less than an hour. From the top you have a great view of the skyline and over the roofs of the city.

Takapuna

Takapuna Beach is located in the north of Auckland and can be reached by bus within 40 minutes. Here you can either relax on the beach or take a short walk along the coast.

Rangitoto Island

Rangitoto Island is about 25 minutes by ferry from Auckland. Three times a day you can get there and back to Auckland.

On the island there are different hiking trails to choose from. The way leads over lava fields and on a hot autumn day it can get very warm. Be sure to take enough water!

At the top you enjoy a panoramic view including the skyline of Auckland. Almost everyday went back the same way. However, I decided to go for another one. That is not really  necessary because there is nothing new or exciting to see, but in my opinion it is always nicer to walk back a different way.

Piha

Piha beach is one of New Zealand’s most notorious surf beaches!

Kitekite Falls

This multi tiered waterfall is relatively easy to reach. It takes around an hour to walk there.

Karekare Falls

Karekare Falls is certainly worth the five-minute walk from the Karekare beach carpark.

Muriwai Beach

I spent two nights at Muriwai Beach. The campsite next to it is new, very clean and beautiful. On the first evening I watched the sunset on the beach - it was the most breathtaking I have ever seen; simply beautiful.

The next day I had a surfing lesson at the Muriwai Surf School and at 10am I finally went surfing for two hours and it was the very first time I was surfing. I can warmly recommend that you try it yourself. The surf instructor was super nice and the beach and waves were perfect for beginners. And if I manage to stand on a surfboard, everyone can do it.
